COVID-19 WON'T STOP THE MUSIC OR MAGIC!

Despite these challenging times, ActUp Theater is keeping the arts alive!

Through with its Virtual Cinderella Project, ActUp is observing social distancing, while maintaining a connection with our community and providing an outlet to the youth that they serve. Originally starting its Spring musical of Cinderella in March, the show’s trajectory was derailed in the wake of the coronavirus’s ongoing impact on young people, families, and our community.

As a result, ActUp Theater adapted to a new learning model in these new times to host virtual rehearsal experiences to the 50+ youth that signed up for the musical and the committed master teaching artists. With the high engagement, they are assured that doing this work is more pressing than ever, particularly in and for communities of color.

Many of the youth participants that felt the 5-year long program was a sanctuary from school are now observing school from home. With the program going completely virtual, the cast can now sing and dance with their friends from their homes. They share their art with each other and stay connected the best way possible with the winners of contests and competitions featured on ActUp Theater’s social media at @actuptheaterct on Instagram and Facebook for the cast and community to take part of this virtual experience with them.

ActUp has focused on its enduring mission to mobilize the power of the Arts in our community and will not let COVID-19 stop the music or the magic.  We will keep the music playing by sharing our songs and dances with you in our community via social media.

This will pass. And when it does, ActUp Theater will be returning with a renewed sense of joy and possibility – and sharing inspiration with you through Cinderella!
