ActUp Theater presents RAISIN, an original contemporary musical adaptation of A Raisin in the Sun! Excited to bring the classic Lorraine Hansberry play to new light, RAISIN portrays a few weeks in the life of the Youngers family.  Race, identity, family, and the American Dream are put under the microscope as the Younger family tries to build a better life for themselves and future generations.

The relevance of this play is brought to the present day with a lively 30-minute TalkBack Reception hosted by Partnership for Strong Communities after the production by the cast to discuss themes of gentrification, owning property, family and going after your dreams in today’s society.

ActUp Theater’s Talk Back Reception will challenge the audience to look at Lorraine Hansberry’s important depiction of society with an intimate cast featuring the best talent of our community.

WHAT HAPPENS TO A DREAM DEFERRED?

DOES IT DRY UP

LIKE A RAISIN IN THE SUN?

      OR FESTER LIKE A SORE—

      AND THEN RUN?

DOES IT STINK LIKE ROTTEN MEAT?

      OR CRUST AND SUGAR OVER—

      LIKE A SYRUPY SWEET?

      MAYBE IT JUST SAGS

      LIKE A HEAVY LOAD.

  OR DOES IT EXPLODE?
